Vancouver Island has a surprisingly small number of true barrel sauna manufacturers. Most local sauna builders deliberately avoid the barrel format — they build cabin-style or Nordic-style saunas instead, often citing insulation and waterproofing concerns.

For most products, whether something is locally made is a preference. For outdoor cedar structures on the BC coast, it has practical implications:
- Walk-in service. One of a Kind has a workshop open six days a week. For warranty service, modifications, or pre-purchase questions, being able to visit in person is a meaningful advantage — especially for a custom order.
- Climate context. Manufacturers on the Island build for Island conditions — persistent coastal rainfall, salt air, and temperature cycling that differ from interior BC or the Canadian prairies.
- Delivery cost and logistics. Shipping a flat-packed barrel sauna from Squamish (mainland) to northern Vancouver Island involves ferry crossings and extended transport. A Parksville manufacturer cuts that significantly for most Island buyers.
